Title: Abuse and Extradition:-
“Using Biden and Trump’s abuse of their Presidential pardon power to prove that it is absolutely wrong to extradite Dan Duggan to the United States for trial”
Author: Thomas Chiu (赵佐荣)
On 23 January 2025, I was interviewed by two young college students who were part-time market researchers at a well-known shopping mall in Australia. They are undergraduate student at a local university for a double degree in law and mass communications.
They conducted a market survey on behalf of the Cantonese Channel of the Australian Government’s Special Broadcasting Service (acronyms: SBS). The purpose of the survey was to see whether SBS’s Cantonese service has met with the needs of ethnic Chinese people who speak Cantonese at home in Australia.
As I pointed out in my response to the survey: SBS Cantonese Channel is not in a position to help itself, and its service is therefore unsatisfactory. To which Australia’s foreign affairs are completely subject to the ideology dominated by the United States has been one of the reasons.
That is why some wicked Australian politicians have suggested that despite China is Australia’s largest export market, it is also Australia’s number one enemy. Hence Australia should be well prepared for China to invade Australia at any time. Unfortunately, this perverse thinking that is not in line with China’s interests has gradually become a kind of weird misconception in Australian Society amongst some Australians.
Since the questionnaire in the survey involved some standard questions about human rights, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom, I asked the two investigators. What do they think of Biden and Trump’s abuse of presidential power to pardon serious criminals and terrorists recently? They were speechless.
I eased their embarrassment by saying: “may be the USA was too far away. Let’s focus on Australia. Do you guys aware of our attorney general’s approved extradition of Dan Duggan for trial in US court at the request of the USA government before last Christmas Eve? An issue about the campaign of “Free Dan Duggan that once again captured the attention of the Australian public just before Christmas last year.”
They shook their heads and told me they had never heard of “Free Dan Duggan”. I then briefly told them the whole story of this case and why this innocent Australian became the scapegoat of the current anti-China wave directed by the United States. Australia succumbed to the demands of the United States and was against Dan Duggan from beginning to end. Taking inhumane, unfair and unjust means to extradite him to the United States.
I repeatedly reminded the two young law students to search the Internet for the Australian Citizens Party’s report on “Free Dan Duggan” as soon as possible. I reiterated that only in this way they would be able to broaden their international perspective and achieve the goal of seeking justice through law. Of course, this is my personal subjective opinion. As the old Chinese saying goes: “We eat at the same table, but practice our own way.” Whether young people can listen to it is their own business!
The only thing I hope for is that fellow Australians should strive to “free Dan Duggan”, so as to enabling termination of this unlawful extradition. If we fail to do so, Australia will inevitably open the flood gate to the USA for interference with our sovereignty, let alone our legal system. I also sincerely hope that the Australian Citizens Party will continue to work hard to do practical and good things for the well-being of the Australian people!
